CEFRG
Welcome to the CEFRG Blog of the Canadian Expeditionary Force Research Group. Construction commenced more than 100 years ago on the Canadian Field Artillery Memorial. Sir Arthur Currie, inaugurated the CFA Memorial (pictured) in December 1917. Canada’s Greatest Leader did so in honour of the men of the CFA who fought and died in the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
The construction of the blog of CEFRG involves the collection of objects, and artifacts. Moreover, stories provide an insight into experiences of the Great War. CEFRG preserves them for future generations, bringing them to today’s audience in the most powerful way possible. Some stories originate from the service records of the C.E.F. personnel held by Library and Archives Canada (LAC).
Blog Stories
Images of the Great War held by LAC are fascinating. The Imperial War Museum (IWM), Australian War Memorial (AWM), Das Bundesarchiv (German archives), and the former website of New Zealand’s First World War Centenary Programme provide many other images.
The former battlefields of the Western Front motivate many posts and videos. Furthermore, cemeteries of the Western Front contain the stories of the The Fallen. Used extensively are collections of current, in addition to, historic images and film. Hundreds of these videos are already available on CEFRG’s YouTube account, and as many posts may be found on CEFRG’s FaceBook page. YouTube playlists include, CWGC Cemeteries, Volksbund Cemeteries, Ceremonies, and On This Day type videos – these are mainly of battles and engagements during the Great War.
